Where is the court located?
We are located at the Town Hall at 1271 Conklin Road, in Conklin. Parking is
located along the sides of the Town Hall.
When are court sessions held?
Tuesdays at 10:00AM. Pre-trials are the first Friday of the month.
How do I answer my traffic ticket?
You may receive either a yellow hand written ticket or a computer generated
ticket. It is the obligation of the receiving motorist or passenger (s) to
respond to the ticket. If the charge is a TRAFFIC INFRACTION you may either
appear in person on the date and time listed on the ticket or plea by mail
will be accepted. If pleading by mail you MUST sign and date in either the
guilty or not guilty portion of the ticket. Please indicate your correct
mailing address in the designated area. Then mail it to the court, the
address is listed on the bottom of the ticket. Upon a plea of guilty, a fine
and surcharge will be assessed and an invoice with the amount due and
payment methods will be mailed to you. Upon a plea of NOT GUILTY, the court
will then schedule a date and time for you to appear for trial. If you have
been charged with a MISDEMEANOR, you MUST appear in person on the date and
time listed on the ticket.
What if I missed my court date?
Please call and notify the court immediately. Failure to do so may subject
your license to suspension or a warrant for your arrest may be issued.
What is a supporting deposition?
A supporting deposition is a more detailed report of the account for which
the ticket was issued. If you were given a computer-generated ticket, you
may have been handed the supporting deposition at that time.
How do I make a payment?
Methods of payment accepted are of US Currency, postal money order,
certified bank check and credit card. We do not accept business or personal
checks. Make all money orders payable to Conklin Justice Court, be sure to
include a case number, ticket number, name and date of birth on the money
order to ascertain proper posting. Cash is only accepted at the court clerks
office. If paying by Visa or MasterCard please follow the instructions on
your invoice as payment can only be processed with copy of card, photocopy
of driver’s license for verification of signatures.
What is waiver/plea bargain?
Before any plea bargain/ waiver, you must first submit a plea of NOT GUILTY
to the court by signing “Part B” of your ticket. When contacting the
District Attorney’s office inform them of your exact charges stated on your
ticket. Please contact the court and inform the clerk that you will be
pleading to an alternative disposition by mail. After receiving the mail
waiver from the DA’s office please sign and return to the court.

What do I do if my license is suspended?
A license is subject to suspension if you have either neglected to plea to
your ticket(s) or failed to pay a fine/ surcharge. Depending on the
circumstances a personal appearance or payment may be required. A State
Mandated Fee is applied to each outstanding charge and must be paid in full
to lift the suspension. For further information regarding suspensions you

Do I need a lawyer to appear in court with me?
Although it is not required to have an attorney, it is not recommended that
you proceed to trial without the aid of counsel.
How Do I obtain representation by the Public Defenders Office?
Call the Broome County Public Defenders Office @ (607) 778-2403 for an
appointment for a qualifying interview. You are required to notify the court
if your scheduled appointment. If you financially qualify for representation
a letter will be forward to the court and your case will proceed to trial,
both you and your public defender will be notified the appearance date.
When are evictions heard and how much is the filing fee?
Evictions can be filed with the court clerk. The filing cost is $20. This
process is time sensitive, it must be filed, heard and served within 5-12
days. A date and time will be given at filing.
How do I file a Small Claim and how much is the filing fee?
Small claims can be filed with the Court clerk. The party you are filing
against must live, work or have a place of business in the Town of Conklin.
They must receive their mail in the Town of Conklin, A post office boxes is
not acceptable. The allowable maximum amount is $3,000. For claims up to
$1,000 the filing fee is $10.00. For claims over $1,000 the filing fee is
$15.00. Please call ahead to make an appointment to file the paperwork. For
more information you may pick up the booklet on Small Claims at the court
office.

I have been drawn as a prospective juror, what do I need to do?
Be prepared to appear on the date you stated on the Jury Summons Notice. You
are to call the court at (607) 775-5244 after 2:00 PM the day before the
scheduled trial. The Court Clerk will advise you as to whether or not you
need to report. If you call after 4:00 PM or over the weekend there will be
a message regarding your reporting status of the trial.
